We help bring languages and cultural understanding to children in an inspiring and cost-effective manner.
This website is designed to be a good starting point for finding out how to introduce modern foreign languages to primary school children. Throughout it signposts you to other useful websites and organisations.

Our vision is of every child in England having the desire, ability and confidence to communicate in another language, as well as an understanding of another culture.
Our purpose is to help primary schools to cost-effectively provide children with the opportunity to learn other languages and about other cultures in an inspiring manner; to do so in a way that benefits the school, the teacher and most importantly the child.
Our aim is for every primary school in the United Kingdom to be able and willing to provide languages to their pupils in curriculum time, the resources they need to do so and good links with schools overseas; with language learning supported by all.

Language teaching for children: we use tested and fun materials to teach languages to children alongside the primary teacher. We also set up links with a school overseas and ensure that language lessons are integrated with the rest of the curriculum.
Professional development for teachers: we can provide additional support to primary teachers so that they can continue the language lessons themselves, supported by links with overseas schools and tested resources. Ultimately Languages for Schools wants to teach itself out of a job!

Exposure to different languages and cultures can increase tolerance from childhood onwards, contributing to Global Citizenship.
Language learning in childhood also lays the foundations for developing real fluency in that language and for learning other languages later in life.
It can also support other areas of the curriculum and improve speaking and listening skills.
Plus of course for each individual child there may be a variety of more personal motivations including annual holidays abroad, a friend overseas, foreigners moving in next door or even an ambition to work abroad when older.
* Language learning at primary is backed by the Government: By 2010 all primary schools will have to offer languages to 7-11 year olds in class time * There is popular support: 75–80% of people agree that English is not enough. * There is demand: There are over 17,000 primary schools in England and currently only 1 in 3 is offering foreign language teaching in class time.
It is good for kids: “It’s good fun and gives me the confidence to speak up.” French pupil.
